Modular 2

While not a new trend, it is evident that prefabricated building is becoming a more viable option for housing. Prefab allows for a manifold approach to understanding both design and the way in which we inhabit space. By its very nature, prefabrication allows for more flexibility in the process of design and construction. Typical delays from shipping to inclement weather are averted by providing the builder a more efficient means to create a precision home. Additionally, the homeowner is given the opportunity for a customized yet affordable home.

Following the successful completion of Modular 1 in the spring of 2004, Modular 2 sought to expand upon the lessons learned from the previous year.  Issues of transportation, materials, accessibility, siting, and coordination continued to drive the design process.  Recycled materials, which included excess channel glass from the Nelson-Atkins Museum Extension by Steven Holl, as well as maple flooring ,give Modular 2 the distinct, architecturally seductive aesthetic that has come to define the work of Studio 804.
