We took advantage of the warm weather earlier in the week and poured the concrete slab for our first floor. In an attempt to conserve funds and take advantage of the 22 able bodied students, we decided to forgo renting a pump truck. Instead we used wheelbarrows and shovels. We constructed a shaft below the chute of the concrete truck to move the material onto our floor deck. A plywood walkway was constructed to protect the tubing for the radiant floor and support the weight of the concrete-filled wheelbarrows. After the concrete was poured, we troweled over the surface to prepare it for our finished floor.
