Week six marked a significant milestone for this year’s project. We are in the warehouse full time and have completed our floor framing, including all joists and decking. In anticipation of our full lumber order, all of our window and door rough openings have been cut; moreover, our roof joists and rim joists have been marked and are ready to be placed. All of this means that we are moving full speed ahead on construction, with the completion of the primary shell of the building in our sights. With the high level of detailing needed for our exterior siding, we continued to spend much of our time creating mock ups and exploring our various options. Throughout this process, all of the wood reclaimed from our magazine building has been processed, being cut, planed, sanded, and prepared for painting with a protective sealant in expectation of its application in the very near future. This week we have also been working simultaneously in Greensburg, with a group traveling to the site to set up batter boards and stake out our building. This process is in anticipation of site excavation and the construction of our foundation walls in the coming weeks. Additionally, Studio 804 was a part of the Greensburg Resource Conference, once again presenting our sustainable prototype to the community as well as those interested in the rebuilding of Greensburg. |
