Week five has been spent completing all our necessary in studio work as we prepare to officially move our operation to the warehouse. Many aspects of the design came to a final vote, which is not always a smooth process, yet we were able to come to resolutions regarding the remaining aspects of our design. With a final design in hand, we were able to place our primary lumber order, which consists of all FSC certified lumber, as well as secure our lighting fixtures as well as skylights. Moreover, with our dimensions set, we have been able to level the floor in the warehouse and begin the arduous task of processing all of the reclaimed lumber from our magazine building. Much of week five has also been spent preparing our design submittal for LEED certification. This process, which has been aided by the support of Jeremy Knoll and Curt Rohner of KC-EGB (Emerging Green Builders), has forced us to identify every aspect of our design, from active systems specifications through daylighting controls and everything in-between. This submittal will allow us to quantify our design within the LEED process and be in a better position to predict the level of certification we will achieve.
