Sustainable Prototype :
week 3 [january 14 - 20]

After only five working days on site, we were able to fully dismantle our magazine building, reclaiming an estimated 90% of the material from the building.  After being moved into our warehouse, sorted, stacked, and counted, the already limited space we had was further disrupted by the arrival of our open web joists from Open Joist of Universal Forest Products, symbolizing the quantifiable first step in the realization of our project.

With the design being narrowed down, we have started our preliminary construction documents, pinpointing our potential ‘projects’ and diving head first into solving our most pressing details.  In addition, our goal of achieving LEED accreditation has led to extensive research into the integration of active systems, including PV panels and wind turbines, into our project.

This week also saw the release of the Greensburg Master Plan by BNIM, a leading Kansas City based firm in sustainable design, which was selected to define the rebuilding strategy in Greensburg.  Throughout our initial process in approaching Greensburg, BNIM played an important role in educating Studio 804 about their plans for the city and how we may be a part of them, and we greatly appreciate their support.
