PREFAB PROGRESS :

Now that the Grand Opening has passed, we focused on completing the specifics of our sustainable prototype during week nineteen.  Our main focus shifted from the exterior to the interior’s fine details.  The temporary placement of our carpet tiles was now made permanent.  Grilles that run the length of the North and South walls were unveiled and set.  These grilles allow for a uniform airflow to reach the entire interior space.  Final coats of paint were applied and the 5.4.7 Arts Center signature was applied to the west foyer wall.

In the basement, we used rapidly renewable materials to cover the floor and walls.  By applying cork to the walls, we have allowed for the pinning of artwork up to display in a classroom setting.  Carpeting along the floor also adds to the feel of a classroom environment, giving a softer surface for people to sit.  We also completed the area we call the control center.  This area contains the building’s electrical panels and all of the equipment necessary to read and run the active systems.

Outside, we placed our 4 solar bollards, products from Landscape Forms.  These smart bollards know to hibernate when the sun is out and turn back on when it is night.  As far as the LEED submission stands, we are still awaiting the final classification.  We have attempted 62 points, equivalent to a LEED Platinum rating.  Upon receiving this, we would be the first Platinum building in the State of Kansas.
